6 Tips for Summertime Skincare
Summertime is here, and it’s time to break out your sundresses, unpack your patio furniture and try on those swimsuits. With all the renewed energy a little Vitamin D brings this summer, don’t forget about potential pitfalls. The sun, as warm and welcoming as it may feel, can still be dangerous to your skin. Here are six easy to remember tips to help keep your skin healthy and protected this summer.
Sunscreen Daily
Make sunscreen, with an SPF of at least 30, part of your daily morning regimen. Even when you’re not planning an outing, it’s easy to forget how much sun time your face gets throughout the day. Keep it protected from the harmful rays by applying a drop to each point in your T zone, paying particular attention to your nose.
Don’t Forget Your Lips
Keep the lip balms handy and apply liberally throughout your day to keep your lips moisturized and protected. Avoid dried, cracked and sunburned lips this summer and make sure you use a lip balm with SPF protection.
Always Keep the Water Handy
Of course, you know to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. But you can also create a habit of carrying water with you routinely for other uses. Pack a small mist bottle with you for those heated moments and refresh your face and neck to cool off in a pinch. You can spritz a fine mist and dab lightly to avoid smudging your makeup. Dampen a small cloth to wrap around your neck. The key is to remember always to have water handy to help you stay cool.
Hats Are Hip
Ball caps or sun hats can be fashionable and protective. If you’re going to spend prolonged periods of time in the sun, blocking its rays is the best protection. A brimmed hat can shield your face from direct sun damage, but it is just as essential to protect your scalp. Keeping your scalp and head cool can help keep your overall body temperature cooler. You won’t always predict a summer outing, so be sure to store a hat in your car or bag for unexpected adventures in the sun.
Fruits Are Fantastic, Inside and Out
Melons and berries are full of powerful antioxidants that are known to combat signs of aging. But fruits also possess external skincare qualities. Cutting up a strawberry to liberally apply around your face can help reduce the visibility of sunspots over time. Use kiwi pulp on your face to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Peaches, loaded with Vitamin A, are fantastic to combat dry skin. Apply your favorite fruit to a clean face, let it rest for 20-30 minutes and rinse. Your skin will feel refreshed.
Keep Clean
Experts suggest the best time to exfoliate your face is before you shower. Implement a scrub routine before your shower to slough off the dead skin and remove sweat, clogged pores. Summer heat can wreak havoc on your pores. Be diligent about your end of day cleaning routine.
