Understanding the Different Types of Hair Extensions

Whether it is for your wedding, graduation, or a casual hangout, long flawless hair is what we all dream of having, right? If you are considering hair extensions, to create that extra length and flow, here are a few options of different types of hair extensions!

Understanding the Different Types of Hair Extensions

Microbead Hair Extensions

Microbead (microlink) is a semi-permanent professional hair extension. Silicon beads are used to attach the extension to the natural hair, near the scalp. The beads are then crimped to secure them. They can be washed as normal and require regular touch-ups but, it is best handled by a professional to avoid hair damage.

Tape-In Hair Extensions

Tape-in extensions are pre-taped wefts of hair that are attached to the scalp using an adhesive. They are enjoyed for their quick installation time and seamless appearance. They do require heat to be installed and can cause damage to the roots of the hair, if done incorrectly. Tape-ins can last from 4-8 weeks and can be reused if kept in good condition.

Fusion Hair Extensions

Fusion hair extensions (bonding or pre bonding) are fused to your hair using small keratin bonds that are heated up and melted before ‘gluing the extensions into your hair. While they require less maintenance, your hairdresser will advise you on whether it is the best fit for you.

Clip-In Hair Extensions

Clip-In Extensions are by far the easiest DIY hair extensions to use and can be done within a matter of 15 minutes. With an average life of 6 months to a year, if well-kept, these easy to use extensions are not permanent and are the least damaging to your hair. If you are not looking to commit to a style, this is a great option for you!
