Hair Removal Services: Waxing and Beyond
It’s no secret that in today’s society, hair removal is a topic of interest among both men and women, young and old. Are you tired of breaking out the razor and spending countless hours every month removing, maintaining, and grooming your body hair? If you’ve ever wondered if there’s a simpler solution, there is!
Arguably one of the most popular beauty services today, waxing is a simple and easy method of hair removal that lasts longer than shaving and combats negative side effects that can stem from shaving such as razor burn and ingrown hairs. Waxing strips were first introduced in the 1960’s, their popularity increasing rapidly as many women used it as their primary form of hair removal. Nowadays–although other methods of hair removal have become more common–waxing still seems to remain at the top.
How is Waxing Performed?
Waxing can be done virtually anywhere hair is present. A trainer provider uses one of two methods to remove body hair: strip waxing or hot waxing. Strip waxing is when a thin layer of wax is spread over the area, covered with a paper strip, and then ripped away quickly in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Hot waxing is done by the provider applying a thicker layer of hot wax over the area. The wax is allowed to temporarily cool before being removed, taking up the hair with it.
Prior to waxing, the provider should assess the area to make sure it has significant hair in order to wax it effectively; around a quarter to an eighth of an inch. Anything shorter than this and the wax may not be able to adhere to the hair enough to pull it from the root. If exfoliation is required before your service, your provider will exfoliate the area in order to provide you with the best results from your treatment. The wax will be applied and then removed swiftly in the opposite direction of the hair growth. During the removal process you may experience pain, but this varies based on your pain tolerance and the area you are getting waxed. After your wax, your provider may apply witch hazel or another product to soothe irritated skin.
